In order to be successful on social media and stand out from your competitors, you have to say goodbye to creating mediocre content and not paying attention to what your customers are saying to you online.

The brands that are standing out and being noticed on social media are the ones that are not afraid to be different and unique.

And I think there are four main things that these brands are doing differently to be noticed in the social media world.

They never stop creating

Creating unique content is one of the best ways for your brand to be successful because creative, original content is a share magnet. And when you’re super creative and do it well, you’ll be noticed.

Take it from General Electric. Not long after they jumped on the Vine train, they created a stellar piece of content with their #6secondsofscience campaign that didn’t take long to go viral. Plus, it’s ridiculously cool if you ask me.

Pabst Blue Ribbon is also a great example of a brand that comes up with some really creative ideas for their social networks.

The brands that get noticed the most on social media are the ones that are consistently creating new, unique content.

They take risks

One of my favorite examples of an organization that turns heads on social media is the Seattle Police Department. With almost 45,000 Twitter followers, the Seattle Police Department always responds to questions with witty answers.

This is definitely not a typical response from a police department on Twitter. And while there’s a fine line between funny and crass, I think the Seattle PD knows the line and shows us that you don’t have to be a huge, well-known company to take risks and be different.

They’re dedicated to their fans and followers

Companies that know what they’re doing on social media always use their channels as a way to talk with their customers.

Yuengling Brewery in Pennsylvania is dedicated to their followers.

The brewery is always really quick to answer questions about where you can find their product, help direct customer service inquiries and even pays attention to the unique questions.

Be dedicated to your followers, pay attention to what they’re saying to you and respond to them.

They show off their personality

No matter your industry or who runs your social media accounts, there is personality within your brand. You just have to discover it.

Mailchimp, an email marketing service provider (not the most exciting of industries), rocks at bringing their personality to social media.

They regularly post photos of their mascot, update their cover photo to show off their office and even post about how cats love their brand, too.

Mailchimp has taken what could have been a boring Facebook page and turned it into something exciting and fresh.

Find what works for you

There’s not a magic recipe for how to stand out on social media and sometimes it’s about trial and error to see what gets people talking.

These brands stepped outside of the box and were successful, but it’s up to you to find what will make your brand successful on social media.
